Originally built in 1904, this Seattle farmhouse had endured a hodge-podge of on-the-cheap renovations and additions, including a family room addition and kitchen "renovation" in the early 1990s. Eight years and two kids have happened since the homeowners purchased the home, and the "first thing they were going to change" has finally made it to the top of the list of renovations. Needing to stick within the original footprint of less than 300 s.f. for a variety of reasons, small changes to doorways still allowed for greater space in the 135s.f. kitchen, a home office nook in the FR, and a more functional bathroom, all without sacrificing other areas. Custom faceframe cabinetry with cabinet latches, soapstone counters, and reclaimed heartpine flooring helped to take the home back to its roots.
