Looking the other way down the length of the house, from the mudroom storage area, through the fireplace room, and back to the kitchen. A wall of French doors opposite the fireplace leads to a walk-out deck, and floods the room with natural light even on gray Northwest winter days. Bead=board paneling in the mudroom, long lengths of freshly milled fir flooring from a local mill, three-over-three lights in the kitchen door, and the transom window lights above, all add to the sense of geomoetry, order, and calm of this new contemporary home built in a clean, traditional Shaker style. The homeowner is a cabinetmaker with a Master's degree in art who designed the house and crafted all of the cabinetry, built-ins, and most other woodwork himself.
