At this suburban home outside Seattle, the owners' garden designer reversed the grade of the backyard to provide privacy and create a lush, naturalistic water feature. Then, because rain is more of a hindrance to entertaining outdoors than temperature in this moderate climate, he built a covered entertaining pavilion off the rear of the house, complete with outdoor kitchen, kitchen island, a skylighted copper-clad roof, and overhead heaters for cool fall and spring evenings.
