Even the large stone stairs seem to "spill" from an upper lawn to a lower one, as water would spill between ponds, in this scene from the upper, walking garden in this otherwise small suburban backyard east of Seattle. Imagine the boulders as pondside buttresses and the groundcover as solid ground in this Zen-like interpretation of a traditional Japanese rock garden. Design by Sander Groves landscapes, Inc.
