Tall-growing Rubro bambooo, Phyllostachys rubromarginata, can reach 55' tall in its native habitat, with each culm, or stalk, reaching nearly 3" in diameter. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, prefers full sun, and is drought tolerant when established. Rubro bamboo is noted for the quality of its wood, as evidenced here by the ladder made from its stalks, and its shoots are edible and tender.
