There are now more than 70 companies producing composite decking materials, usually made from recycled plastic, wood scraps, and resins, although Trex was the first company to do so. Composites come in a range of colors, textures, dimensions, styles, and simulated wood grains that can be matched together, cut to any size, and cut, joined, and scribed like wood. In the hands of a skilled installer, composites can even be heated and bent to fit into shapes and curves, like this bench.
